Ghost Light at the Chicago Cultural Center, Director Dexter Bullard 2008
Plasticene invited 18 performance artists to perform a volume of an encyclopedia. I ate all of the pictures in mine; chewed them up, spit them out and labled them with subject headings. “United Kingdom” and “Zorastrianism” look alot alike chewed up. I connected the topics with miniature fishing twine (like the first telegraph lines crossed the ocean). The extra spit went into small crystal salt shakers. They held the salt of the intellectual ocean I made. In the dark they mirrored the imaginary stars helping my boat lamp find its way to the next topic. “Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink. Water, water everywhere and how the boards did shrink!” Intelligence struggles to survive among all that knowledge.
